1 cup ketchup - 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar - 1/3 cup brown sugar (adjust to taste) - 1/4 cup molasses - 1/4 cup Dijon mustard - 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce - 1 teaspoon smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon garlic powder - 1 teaspoon onion powder - 1/2 teaspoon black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon salt - Optional: Hot sauce or cayenne pepper for heat (adjust to taste)
Ingredients
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.
Stir the ingredients well to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
Taste the sauce and adjust the sweetness if needed. If you prefer a sweeter sauce, add more brown sugar or molasses.
If you want a spicy BBQ sauce, add hot sauce or cayenne pepper to achieve the desired level of heat. Start with a small amount and adjust to your taste.
Allow the sauce to simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. This helps the flavors meld, and the sauce will thicken slightly.
If the sauce is too thick, you can add a little water to achieve your preferred consistency.
Once the BBQ sauce has reached your desired taste and thickness, remove it from the heat and let it cool. Transfer the sauce to a jar or airtight container for storage.
