2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp baking powder 2 tbsp sugar ½ cup warm water 1 tbsp vegetable oil 1 tbsp sakura powder or pickled sakura petals ¼ tsp salt
Ingredients:
In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Add sakura powder or finely chopped pickled sakura petals for flavor and color.
Gradually add warm water and vegetable oil while kneading until a soft, smooth dough forms. Let it rest for 30 minutes, covered with a damp cloth.
Divide the dough into equal portions and shape them into small buns. Optionally, press a whole sakura petal onto the surface for decoration.
Line a steamer with parchment paper, ensuring the buns are spaced apart. Cover and let them rest for another 15 minutes to rise slightly.
Steam the buns over boiling water for 10–12 minutes. Avoid opening the steamer lid during cooking to prevent temperature fluctuations.
Once steamed, turn off the heat and let the buns sit for 2 minutes before uncovering. This helps maintain their fluffy texture and prevents shrinkage.
Serve warm and enjoy the delicate floral aroma of these soft, vegan sakura flower buns, perfect with tea or as a light, sweet snack.
