Rare $5M Nickel Up for Auction – Could You Own One?

The Eliasberg 1913 Liberty Head Nickel is one of just five ever made, making it an incredibly rare and valuable piece in the world of numismatics.

This historic coin will be auctioned on Aug. 15 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, attracting collectors eager to own a unique piece of U.S. history.

William Morton-Smith’s passion for rare coins began when he discovered a hidden compartment in a colonial desk, revealing a collection from his great-grandfather.

His dedication led him to amass an impressive collection, but it was Louis E. Eliasberg who earned fame for assembling the most complete U.S. coin collection.

The 1913 Liberty Head Nickel became the crown jewel of Eliasberg’s collection, with another of the five coins selling for $5 million in 2007.

Stack’s Bowers Galleries, a top auction house, has handled some of the world’s most valuable coins, including The Pogue Collection, worth $106 million.

The American Numismatic Association’s event from Aug. 14-18 will showcase $1 billion in rare coins, offering enthusiasts a chance to witness history.
